Care Instructions

Our original design Lone Star counter-top chopping blocks are elevated to allow a bowl or pan to be placed at the end to slide whatever you are cutting into. Each one is constructed using select hardwood, edge grain lumber to provide a solid, high quality, food preparation surface. The blocks are pressure bonded with a strong, waterproof adhesive, which is FDA approved for indirect food contact.  Each Lone Star block has non-marring, non-skid, rubber feet that protect your counter top and keeps the chopping block in place during use. All Lone Star chopping blocks are treated with 100% natural mineral oil.  Mineral oil is FDA approved for use on wooden food preparation surfaces. It is tasteless, colorless and odorless and readily available at your local grocery, pharmacy, or discount store.  If you use the chopping block to prepare cooked meat, fruit, vegetables, cheeses, breads etc., it can be cleaned with dishwater. However, if raw meat is prepared on the chopping block, the block should be cleaned with a bleach water solution, (1/4-cup bleach to a gallon of water) and allowed to dry thoroughly. (Putting the block in the dishwasher is not recommended).  Over time, as knife marks build up on the chopping block, they can be reduced by letting water sit on the top of the block for 10-15 minutes after cleaning to soften the raised grain. Then scrub the top back and forth in the direction of the wood grain with a metal mesh pot scrubber. Oiling your chopping block will help it repel moisture and keep it looking great. Just apply the mineral oil generously with a dry cloth, allow it to soak in, and wipe away any excess oil.  Each Lone Star counter-top chopping block is handcrafted with select hardwood to insure years of beauty and service. Lone Star counter-top chopping blocks have a one year replacement guarantee.
